Terms of use
Welcome to Rose & Hammer. Please read these terms carefully. They explain the rules for using our website and services, and they form an agreement between you and us.
Last updated: 13th October 2026 · Version: 1.0
1. About us and these terms
1.1 Rose & Hammer (the Service) is an online directory of qualified tradeswomen in the United Kingdom, available at www.roseandhammer.co.uk. It is run by The Women's Auto Academy Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales with company number 17417728, whose registered office is at 71-75 Shelton St, London WC2H 9JQ ("we", "us", "our").
1.2 You can contact us at hello@roseandhammer.co.uk.
1.3 By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these terms, our Privacy Policy, our Code of Conduct and our Cookie Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
1.4 In these terms, a Customer is anyone who registers to search for tradeswomen and send enquiries. A Tradeswoman is anyone who applies for, or has, a listing. "You" means whichever of these applies to you.
2. What the Service is, and what it is not
2.1 We are a directory. We provide a place where Customers can find Tradeswomen and send them enquiries. That is all. We do not take bookings, arrange or supervise work, handle payments, give quotes or provide trade services ourselves.
2.2 Any contract for work is only between the Customer and the Tradeswoman. We are not a party to it and we are not responsible for it. Customers and Tradeswomen are responsible for agreeing the scope, price, timing, payment terms and any guarantees directly with each other, preferably in writing.
2.3 Tradeswomen are independent. They are not our employees, agents or contractors. Listing on the Service, or being "Verified", does not mean we recommend, guarantee or endorse any Tradeswoman, her work, her prices or her availability. Customers should use their own judgement and carry out the usual checks before agreeing to work.
2.4 Some listings offer pre-purchase car inspections (where a mechanic accompanies a Customer to look at a car they are thinking of buying). This is a service the mechanic provides independently. An inspection is a professional opinion based on what can be seen and tested at the time. It is not a guarantee of a vehicle's condition, history, ownership or value, and Customers should still carry out their own checks, such as a vehicle history check and checking the paperwork.
3. Using the Service
3.1 You must be at least 18 years old to create an account.
3.2 You must give us accurate and up-to-date information, and keep it up to date. You are responsible for keeping your password secure and for everything that happens through your account. Tell us at once if you think someone else has accessed it.
3.3 You may have one account. Don't create another to get around a suspension, removal or other decision we have made.
3.4 We may make changes to the Service, add or remove features, or suspend the Service for maintenance. We do not promise that it will always be available or error-free.
4. Tradeswomen
Eligibility
4.1 Rose & Hammer lists women who work in the trades. To apply for a listing, you must:
- be a woman (including a trans woman) and declare this on your application;
- be a qualified tradeswoman in the trade or trades you list, and not an apprentice or trainee. A "qualified" tradeswoman holds a recognised qualification for the trade, or can show equivalent professional experience where the trade does not require a qualification. We decide whether the evidence you provide is sufficient;
- be a sole trader, an employee of a company, or the owner or operator of a garage or company;
- be at least 18 and entitled to work in the United Kingdom; and
- hold current public liability insurance appropriate for the work you do, and any registration or accreditation the law or your trade requires for that work (for example, Gas Safe registration for gas work).
4.2 We do not ask you for evidence of your gender identity. We rely on your declaration, and we may remove a listing if we reasonably believe a declaration was knowingly false.
Applying and verification
4.3 Your listing is not public until we approve it. We may ask for photo ID, proof of qualification, proof of insurance and proof of any trade registration or membership relevant to your work. We may ask for more information at any time, and we can approve, decline or request changes to any application at our discretion. We will give you a reason if we decline.
4.4 We check the documents you provide against the criteria described on our How verification works page. The "Verified" badge shows only the specific checks we have completed at the time, as listed on your profile. It is not a guarantee of the quality, safety or legality of your work, and it does not mean we have inspected your work, your premises or your finances. We do not carry out criminal record checks unless we say so.
4.5 You confirm that all information and documents you give us are true, accurate and your own, and that you have the right to share them with us. Providing false information or documents is a serious breach of these terms and may be reported to the relevant authorities.
Your ongoing responsibilities
4.6 You must:
- keep your insurance, qualifications, registrations and business details up to date, and upload renewed documents promptly. If your insurance expires, we may remove the insurance check from your Verified badge and may suspend your listing;
- tell us promptly if anything you told us changes, including if you cease to hold a qualification, registration or insurance policy;
- make sure your listing, photos and descriptions are accurate, and only show work that you or your own team carried out;
- respond to enquiries within a reasonable time;
- be responsible for the work you agree to carry out, including complying with all laws, regulations, health and safety rules and industry standards that apply, and for your own tax, insurance and legal obligations; and
- follow our Code of Conduct.
Your listing
4.7 You are responsible for everything you put on your profile. Your profile will show your display name, business name, trades, services, general area (not your full address), service radius, photos, bio and the credentials we have verified. Your phone number and email address are not shown publicly. You choose whether to share them with a Customer when you accept an enquiry.
4.8 You can edit or remove your listing, or close your account, at any time from your dashboard.
Costs
4.9 Listing on Rose & Hammer is currently free. We may introduce fees in future. Before any fee applies to you, we will give you at least 28 days' written notice, and you will be free to remove your listing without penalty. We will not charge you without your agreement.
5. Customers
5.1 Registering and searching is free. You must be logged in to send an enquiry or save favourites.
5.2 When you send an enquiry, the Tradeswoman receives your first name, the job details you provide, and the general area of the job. She does not receive your email address, phone number, surname or full address unless you choose to give them to her. She can accept, decline or ask a question. If she accepts, she may send you her contact details so that you can talk directly. Do not put phone numbers, email addresses or your home address in your enquiry.
5.3 You are responsible for the information in your enquiries, for checking that a Tradeswoman is right for the job, and for agreeing the work, price and payment terms with her. We recommend that you always get a written quote, avoid paying large amounts in advance, and follow the advice in our Safety Centre.
5.4 We may limit the number of enquiries you can send, for example to prevent spam.
6. Enquiries, messages and contact details
6.1 Enquiries and messages sent through the Service must relate to genuine trade work and follow our Code of Conduct.
6.2 If someone shares personal contact details with you, you may use them only for the purpose of arranging the work you enquired about. You must not share them with anyone else or use them for marketing or any other purpose.
6.3 We store enquiries and messages and may access them where necessary to deal with a report, investigate a safety concern, resolve a dispute, or meet a legal obligation. See our Privacy Policy for details.
7. Reviews
7.1 Only Customers who have had an enquiry accepted by a Tradeswoman can review her. A Customer can review each accepted enquiry once.
7.2 Reviews must be honest, based on your own genuine experience, and about the work and service. They must not include personal information about anyone, abuse, discriminatory remarks, threats or anything unlawful.
7.3 You must not write or arrange fake, paid or incentivised reviews, review your own listing or a competitor's, or try to remove or alter genuine reviews by threats, pressure or payment. We may remove such content and take action against the accounts involved.
7.4 Reviews are published first and checked afterwards. We may ask a reviewer to edit a review, or remove a review that breaks these terms or our Code of Conduct. We do not edit the wording of reviews and do not remove reviews just because they are critical.
7.5 A Tradeswoman can post one public reply to each review and can report a review she believes breaks our rules.
7.6 Reviews are shown with the reviewer's first name and a "verified enquiry" label.
8. Content you provide
8.1 You keep ownership of the content you provide (such as your profile text, photos, enquiries, messages and reviews).
8.2 By submitting content to the Service, you give us a free, non-exclusive, worldwide licence to host, store, display, reproduce, resize and share it as needed to run and promote the Service. For public content (such as profile photos, work photos and reviews) this includes showing it on the Service and on our social media and marketing, with your name or business name. If you do not want your content used for promotion, tell us at hello@roseandhammer.co.uk and we will stop. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for content that has already been shared or published elsewhere, or where we must keep a copy to meet a legal obligation or deal with a safety report.
8.3 You promise that you have the rights needed to submit your content, that it is not misleading or unlawful, and that it does not infringe anyone else's rights (including copyright, privacy, or the rights of people shown in photos).
8.4 The Service, its design, logo, name, text and software belong to us or our licensors. You may use them only to access and use the Service as intended. "Rose & Hammer" and The Women's Auto Academy are our brands, and you may not use them without our permission.
9. Safety, blocking and reporting
9.1 You can block any user and report any listing, enquiry, message, review or person at any time. Blocking is private. The person you block is not told.
9.2 We take reports seriously. We may investigate, ask for more information, and take action, including removing content or suspending or removing accounts, in line with our Code of Conduct. We will not tell the person you reported who reported them.
9.3 To report illegal content or conduct, or to flag a concern, use the Report button or email hello@roseandhammer.co.uk. If anyone is in immediate danger, call 999.
9.4 We may share information with the police or other authorities where we reasonably believe it is necessary to protect someone, to prevent or detect crime, or where the law requires it.
10. What you must not do
10.1 You must not:
- break any law, or help anyone else to;
- break our Code of Conduct;
- give false information, or pretend to be someone else;
- harass, abuse, threaten or discriminate against anyone;
- scrape or copy data from the Service by automated means, or build a database of listings or users;
- send spam or marketing messages;
- try to access accounts or data that are not yours, or test, bypass or interfere with our security or the way the Service works;
- introduce viruses or harmful code; or
- use the Service in any way that could damage or overload it, or harm our reputation.
11. Suspension, removal and appeals
11.1 We may warn, restrict, suspend or remove a listing or account, or remove content, if we reasonably believe you have broken these terms or our Code of Conduct, if we cannot verify your credentials or they are no longer valid, if you pose a risk to others, if we must do so by law, or if you have not used your account for a long time.
11.2 We will usually tell you why and give you a chance to respond, but we may act immediately where there is a risk to safety or where the behaviour is serious.
11.3 If we suspend or remove your account or listing, you can appeal by email or through your account within 28 days. We will look at your appeal fairly and let you know the outcome.
11.4 You may close your account at any time from your account settings. Closing it does not affect rights that have already arisen.
12. Links to other sites
12.1 The Service may link to other websites, including Tradeswomen's own websites and social media pages. We do not control these sites and are not responsible for their content or practices.
13. Our responsibility to you
13.1 We do not exclude or limit our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot legally be excluded or limited. If you are a consumer, your legal rights are not affected by these terms.
13.2 The Service is a directory. We do not carry out, supervise or guarantee the work, and we are not responsible for the quality, safety, cost, timing or legality of any work, or for anything a Customer or Tradeswoman does or fails to do. We are not responsible for the content that users post, though we will act on it as set out in these terms.
13.3 We take care to run the Service with reasonable skill and care and to carry out our verification checks as described. But we cannot guarantee that every piece of information on the Service is accurate, complete or up to date, or that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free.
13.4 Subject to 13.1, we are not liable for any loss or damage you suffer that was not a foreseeable result of our breach or negligence. If you are using the Service for business purposes (for example, as a Tradeswoman), we are also not liable for loss of profit, loss of business, loss of opportunity, loss of goodwill or indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability to you in connection with the Service in any 12-month period will not exceed £100.
14. Changes to these terms
14.1 We may update these terms from time to time, for example to reflect changes in the law or in the Service. We will tell you about important changes, usually by email or when you next log in, and may ask you to accept the new version. If you do not agree to the changes, you can close your account. Continuing to use the Service after the changes take effect means you accept them.
15. Complaints and disputes
15.1 If you have a complaint about the Service, please contact us at hello@roseandhammer.co.uk. We will acknowledge it within 3 working days and aim to give you a full response within 14 days.
15.2 If you have a dispute with a Customer or a Tradeswoman about work, you should try to resolve it directly with them. We do not arbitrate disputes about work. We may look at reports that someone has broken our Code of Conduct.
16. General
16.1 Whole agreement. These terms, together with the documents they refer to, are the whole agreement between you and us about the Service.
16.2 Our rights. If we don't enforce a right straight away, that does not mean we have given it up. If any part of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest will still apply.
16.3 Transfer. You may not transfer your rights under these terms to anyone else. We may transfer ours to another organisation that takes over the Service, and we will let you know if we do.
16.4 Third parties. No one else has any right to enforce these terms.
16.5 Governing law. These terms and any dispute arising from them are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in the courts of the part of the UK where you live. If you are a consumer, nothing in these terms takes away any protection you have under the law of the part of the UK where you live.
